What kind of things do i need to be aware of or know about these guys that I may not have read about? Should I get 1 or would they be more comfortable having 2?

go with more then 3 or just 1. They can either get along well or not at all. Theyre awesome fish, grow slow, and can get big.

JUST DONT FEED ANY LIVE FEEDER FISH! I never did, but i went icefishing and had some shiners left over and i decided to feed them to my dats.. well now my dat has a parasite of some sort.

Theyre awesome fish, how big of a tank u have?

that could have happened to anything, if his dat refuses to take anything else than he should feed it feeder fish.

but yeah they dont get along well with just two or three gget 1 or getr a bunch.

what kind of dat did you have in mind and what size tank.

The tank is a 90 gallon well established, I generally keep my nitrates around 10 no more then 20. The store just called it a gold tiger so I don't know what kind that would be. What kind do you think it is going by that name? Are they aggressive to others?

It's probably an IT (Indonesion Tiger, Datnioides microlepis). Like AquataHolic420 said, keep it in odd numbers...some get along...some don't. For the most part they will tolerate any tankmates that they can't eat.

It is most likely going to be an indo or a NTT. Indos can be aggressive towards each other. NTT's however are the least aggressive and you will have your best chances with them if your trying a small group.

NTT's are also a good choice because there are 1 of the smaller species of Dats and can be kept in your 90 gallon for life. Assuming your not over stocked with other fish.

I agree with Aquata - Feeders are no good for any fish as they are kept in horrible conditions as they are raised and then bad things happen to your fish. Just keep offering them other types of frozen foods and they will eventually take them.
