If you're just getting into fish, you'll want to stick with the upper-jaw species of bichir as they tend to be more active than others. Specifically delhezi, senegalus, and palmas polli.

Even the smallest species gets large (12") so keep that in mind when picking a tank, or deciding whether you can keep them at all in your current tank. They grow fairly quickly.

Read the primer, then if something more specific comes up, ask away.

Too bad you're far away man. Since I just picked up a polli palmas last night, I can now sell my 4" delhezi for $10 if there is any taker. What's wrong with it? Nothing wrong, I just need to sell because it's the smallest of the bunch. I could use the extra room just in case another polli palmas is for sale. Hint to Serg.
