this started two days ago. does any one know what it is? what should i use to treat it? can i medicate the 55 gallon he is in with other fish?what causes this? any info is appreicated
Just from the photo I would guess both ich and a secondary fungus infection, there is another thread in this forum discussing the same thing. Check it out and remember that raising the temp. slowly to around 85 and adding salt is a fairly safe treatment that works well for a lot of external parasites. You can also scan past posts on this forum for those mentioning salt treatments or ich.
My fungus spots look just like the bigger fluffier ones in those pictures. Although none of my fish have nearly that many spots they have much the same appearance. Like Guppy said, check out the thread I started, there is some good info in there.
try any of the anti fungal remedies at your local lfs. that is fungus for sure. do large scale water changes and vacuum your gravel regularly. raise temp to 85-86' and wait it out. as long as you catch it soon and keep the aquarium well cared for and clean it should subside.
i wouldnt eat a fungused fish. no thank you. i wouldnt eat a pleco either, but if you do happen to have any large fish in perfect health id be more than happy to dispose of them for you. and noone can forget now. i am forever the MONSTER FISH EATER! hahahaha
Try the salt remedy that guppy just gave. That should work . Make sure your water is clean and that the pleco is not being bothered by its tankmates. Let us know how it goes ..
hahahaha. hey man just because they can now say they have kept great whites in captivity dont mean thell ever be able to keep THIS MONSTER in a cage. but hey im sure that it would help a lot of fish sleep better at night if they did. haha
