Hey guys the time has come to build my new ply tank. I am planning on the dimensions of 12' X 3' X 2.5' for about 675 gal. For glass I am breaking down a 120g glass tank and using the 2 5ft panes for viewing windows. I was contemplating using the bottom pane for a corner to make it an L shape but I'm not sure if that allowed.

The tank will only be as tall as my 120 is right now so I figure glass thickness to be correct for my build.

Here are my 2 questions...

(1) Can I use my bottom pane of glass for a side window?

(2) This is where the advise comes in... Can you guys show me your favorite/most detailed builds for big ply tanks??? I am slightly overwhelmed with all the builds on this site and I don't visit the DIY sec as much as some of you so I don't even know where to start...

THANKS MFK DIYers

This is a good solid build I think... I want this tank to last as long as possible and this is what I saw that I liked... I am good with fiberglass and its a familiar material to me. I have never used pond liner or pond armor or whatever else has been used but i'm sure I can figure it out if it is necessary to building the best tank.

my only concern with the bottom pane would be that its probably scratched all to rat crap from the gravel or sand that was on the bottom

as far as favorite builds there are lots .. when i built mine I read as much as I could .. took the ideas I liked and added my own .. nothing beats a good game plan

decide what you want to seal it with then go from there

I never even thought of that... Good look on the scratching...

Other than the scratch factor, the bottom pane would be fine for a viewing window.
