I am starting a new 5.5 nano planted

I am starting a new 5.5nano planted tank and I am torn between substrates. Should I use eco complete or floramax?

Also, what is a good fertilizer to use? I have heard some good things about seachem flourish excel and root tabs

I like eco complete better than floramax. I use a mix of eco complete and flourite in my 40b. I dose using the seachem line: excel, iron, potassium and nitrogen.

Plants will grow in most any substrate. What is more important is lighting and CO2. On a shallow tank like a 5 gallon lighting is not that critical. However, CO2 is one of the limiting factors in plant growth. Without enough CO2, adding fertilizer will do little.

Is there anyway to add co2 without using a pressurized system? I know there is a DIY system too
