I bought a sick Gar

I just bought a sick Alligator Gar for 20 dollars. I believe it has amonia poisoning. He is about 14 inches, and swimming and eating normal. His lower back is curved and his tail is turning white. I really wanted to help this gar. Any ideas would be great.
 
Post a pic so you can get a exact diagnoses. But for now i would add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 10 gallons, keep up with the water changes, and overall just try to keep the water quality as good as you can.

That is way too much salt to add!

Try bumping the water temperature to 82°F & adding one tablespoon of salt per 20 gallons of water. Be sure to keep the pH at or slightly above 7.0 & keep up with your water changes.
 
I was about to write what wiggles92 wrote! Best of luck with this gator, hope he recovers quickly and please post pics!
