okay so i went this morning to a nearby LFS to check if they already have a juvenile Arapaima that i want as a first tank mate for my 9" Alligator Gar.
but no luck so i just looked around..
then i saw a juvenile Clown Knife around 3" plus getting bullied by a smaller fish in a small tank. I looked closely and saw it's tail is already missing(like the bone and flesh is already coming out) and it's fins at the bottom of it's body are already ragged from other fish bites.
he looks exactly like this only smaller and without the tail. (sorry can't take a pic since my Blackberry went missing, so i just searched for a picture here in the forums, hope i'm allowed to use this)

so i really pitied this poor fella and the LFS owner doesn't seem to care so i just bought it. (first time i got a fish without doing prior research, so i feel not ready and a little nervous)
right now it's in a 75g tank with my 9" Alligator Gar.
I have a new 1200g but it's currently doing a fishless cycling.

i need a lot of help from you guys.
i'm very patient in doing research about fishes, just point me in the right direction for starters.

What do you want to know? Diet? How to heal the tail? Be specific.

What does the injury on the tail look like? Any red or whitish markings on it?

yes everything you can tell will be much appreciated :)
really would like to save this guy and see it grow up.
and yeah, i've been wondering if it's tail will grow back again?
i can't see any withish markings on the damaged tail, just red but i can see the outlike of the bone

just remember to try to get him on pellets or you'll spend alot on feeders! And if he doesn't take em well that just sux! Ive had mine for awhile now and ive ttried basically everything and cant get him on anything besides feeders. very rewarding fish, though and im sure it'll love being in a 1200g! beautiful and corky to watch

Yes ^ try your hardest to get the Clown knife to eating pellets mine do and i save alot on feeders all though they still go after the rosies. But this fish gets a little mean after feeding it feeders, Mine has anyways. But their is alot of info in the link above that should point you in the right direction. also put some Aquarium salt in there and have the temp set to about 80-82 F. The salt should aid a little in the regrowth of the tail. I bought mine too in poor condition, the color on the body of the fish was turning gray and not the steady black it was supposed to be. i used the salt and had the temp at 80-82 F (it always fluctuated) and the color came back and now he looks better than Ever Good luck!!

i was lucky enough to get my CK on pellets too, hell it even went for veggie rounds.
and that is Alot of space for your Ck along with the gar :)
good luck w/ it.
