I can feel it, a sort of premonition that a lot of time and money will soon be spent on taking my old hobby in a new direction.

Always had freshwater tanks, (40, 55, 80, etc) and always loved them. Back in the early 1990's after moving to a new house, set up my 95 gallon tank for my first saltwater venture. Kept it going for a number of years and it was beautiful, but in the end I got tired of watching very expensive fish die whenever something went wrong. Changed the tank to freshwater, and have been housing African Cichlids in it ever since.

For quite some time now I have wanted to either go back to saltwater, or at least get more creative with the freshwater set-up. However, I have been living and working in China for the past 5 years, and a high maintenance tank wasn't logical with so much traveling back and forth.

Now it is appearing that I will soon be able to spend significantly more time back home in the states than I do here in China, so now I am turning my thoughts towards the aquarium once again. Probably just going to revitalize my freshwater set-up and see how creative I can get with it.

In the 1990s and earlier when practicing my aquarium hobby, I didn't have the advantage offered by the internet today. Now I am very excited to utilize the community here and the online fish and supply stores in revisioning my tank.

Thanks for being here!

Welcome to the forum! :) We can always use more long term hobbyists.
I've only been keeping for fish 7 yrs, relatively new to you, but you're right, the internet has changed things drastically and made information on fishkeeping MUCH more attainable. I read so much information in the first few years I started I thought my brain might explode.
Still there's nothing that beats experience for many things, especially since there's still a lot of misinformation floating around out there, considering anyone can post anything online.

I'm sure you'll find some pretty nifty fish to go in a new direction browsing the forum, and the vendors and FS section has a lot of oddball fish for sale.

Of course, I always recommend native fish to everyone, since that's my thing (probably couldn't tell from my signature :p), but there are a ton of different fish species available nowadays, especially if you're willing to buy online.

welcome to mfk. Nice to meet you
