I have always migrated toward a "Big Fish" aquarium. Well, about a year ago. The beginning of 2021 I decided to make my aquarium look pretty for my wife. I did try to keep it as natural looking as possible. That is my preference. I searched high and low to find a statue of a mermaid it liked. I eventually found the one I now have in the tank.she was around 50 bucks. Then I put in a natural looking air stone. I wanted it to appear the mermaid is laying on the bottom admiring the rising bubbles. The wife had me place a plant in front of her exposed tit. LOL
Anyway, I went with angles, gouramis and various types of tetras. About 4 of each kind. Then a problem showed up. One of the white Skirted tetras was a punk. A real bully. He was small, but he terrorized all the fish. The fish were always hiding as Mr. Punk Fish ruled. I started to hate the skirted tetras. Instead of sentencing the Punk to death by execution I tried something different. I added 4 more skirted tetras, even though I now almost despised them. Then 4 more and four more. Now I have 20. By the way, the Punk stopped terrorizing after I added the first four. They started really schooling. That is why I kept adding them and being white they really stand out. When I one day have my 300 gallon tank I will have 150 fish. They will be almost all white skirted tetras and a bunch of albino Cory catfish. I have 4 corys now. And white mystery Snails.
Like I said, I can't believe I have switched to tiny fish and I like them. I think a school of fish satisfies my desire for something bigger. Oh and by the way, most of the different types of fish seemed to have died back over the year. But, I have not lost one of the white skirted tetras. That really surprised me. I would have thought they would not be so hardy.

I have not posed it quite a while and wanted to share my experience.
BTW I still have tilapia in several tanks ranging from 20g to a 275g tote. I stock them in my 1/3 acre pond every spring to feed my bass population.

Those skirts tetras are bomb proof. If my 75 wasn’t sitting on the fully stocked mark you’d have inspired me to add some more (I only have one, lost all else to disease/poor genetics early on).
My planted tank definitely gave me an appreciation for the small guys too. The big guys will always be the most fun for me, but there is always something peaceful about a tank of fish not trying to kill each other…I wonder what it is…
