So it starts out sad. I go to a LFS near my on my way home just to see whats in there. Its not my favourite or main store, but I just can't help but walk into a fish store when I see one. It nearly made me sick. There was a tank full of Tandanus Catfish with no eyes. Turns out they put a Coal Grunter in with them, nearly every single one had no eyes or just one eye left.
I couldn't resist. I know have 4 eyeless Tandanus Catfish. To go along with the 3 already in my tank. I figured no one would want to buy them without eyes, and I want to try and provide a good home for them.
Feels good to have hopefully "saved" them.

^ Although its great that your helping those poor fish, but at the same time your just giving the shop more incentive to order more and place them in horrible conditions, knowing that even in that state, people are still willing to buy them...

If i were in your shoes, next time i would just grit my teeth and leave, since by supporting them, your keeping them in business for longer and possibly causing more un-necessary suffering... although as i mentioned, i still applaud you for helping the fish, just wish there was a way you could have done it without benefiting the shop...

That's so sad. I would of reported animal cruelty. In Canada they have some strict animal cruelty laws now. They are banning a lot of exotic aquatic animals due to similar conditions. I don't know how your states laws work but if here that LFS would be shut down in a heart beat. Anyhow good for u on the rescue part.

I can see the reason for not buying them. But at least they had removed the offending fish. Its just putting them together in the first place which really surprised me. Ive been told before the Grunter would destroy pretty much anything.

I just hope they get enough food in my tank. Feed time is a big mess in my tank. Fins everywhere!

Yes animal cruelty is a big thing now in Canada. Most exotic reptiles are being banned on the market ie FRT's, snakes etc. My friend's LFS in Calgary gets harassed by Humane society once a month. They have a hotline for reporting animal cruelty. I'm sure if that LFS got reported they would fine them big time or shut them down for good.
