So we ended up adopting a 29gal that was damn near empty cept a big ol 8"+ plec and 2 oversized barbs, small bronze tetra and a red eyed tetra from a family friend who was moving and already had several large marine tanks to move. I let it sit for the last three weeks to make sure they were ok after the move, not to mention the tank was in obvious unkept fashion when we got there.
I made the mistake of taking my wife with me to my LPS and she ended up falling in love with a 3" african butterfly cichilid, well then next thing I know she comes walking in from the back with a aulonocara baenschi "peacock cichilid".

My question for all of you who *obviously* have more experience than myself, .....Think they will get along well enough? I keep reading that the Butterfly can be very agro.

PS> I think im going to ask for anouther 55gal for my Bday :naughty:

Africans are aggressive, but peacocks are far less aggressive than several Africans (Mbunas). That sounds like too much stock for a 29. I wouldn't have an 8" pleco in there at all. At that size, it is going to produce much more waste than it is going to clean. You can try a bristlenose pleco. They grow slower than a common and do not get as large.

OMG i know what u mean ...he is a poo' machine. But really what am I going to do with the guy till i get a 55 gal =/

Clean clean clean hehehe

I predict..

a much larger tank in your future

55 gal is up and running, afraid the 29 gal might have ich ............ noticed it 3 days ago... actually just 3 white spots on a side fin of one of the barbs and 1 white spot noticed on the pleco. Cranked the temp up ..far as i can get it.. currently at 82 degrees
Put in a extra air wand, started a cycle of lifeguard. running with 5 outa 6 recommended tablets, want to make sure its working but afraid of the stress on the pleco.

Currently putting in one TBS. in the tank of salt every other day. I know its very light but again i'm worried about the pleco.

Any extra advice please hollar.

Thanks.

PS> Soon as this clears up (10 days after all white spots are gone correct?) Ill be moving the pleco into the 55gal along with the 2 cichilids.

P.P.S---- Also a question concerning water changes while running a cycle of lifeguard. Will it decrease the effect of the medicine?
I am trying to do a water change every 3-4 days to make sure the ammonia in the water stays below 5. ppm. Until I can get the tank un-populated for obvious reasons.
