More than likely a Malawi mutt...no offence. It could be a Rusty cichlid, Iodotropheus sprengerae, a Mbuna, but doubtful. If it is, it will turn a lavender color as an adult...providing it is a male, which it looks to be. It looks like an adult however and unless the pic doesn't show the lavender, it is a hybrid. Still a good looking fish though.

Your african is a female zebra of sorts. Looks like either a red top Nakatenga or greshiakei...but if you don"t know the local of it when you purchased it, it very well can be a cross of some sort.
2 of this fish, 2 kenyi, 1 cobalt blue, 1 yellow lab, 1 Mel auratus, 2 milomo, 1 venustus, 2 Raphael cats, 2 giant Asian upside down cats, 1 jack demapey, 1 salvini, 2 silver dollars and 1 red tail tin foil barb. I know this is a very bad mix but I've had them forever and they seem fine.
