I bought the larger of these fish as Crenicichla lepidota and then a few days later found the smaller one in the same shop labeled "jewel pike."

Both fish have vertical purple and teal bands on the caudal fin, and a thin red border on the dorsal fin.
However, the small one also has notable gold flecks On the tail and much brighter/bolder pattern on the fins.

Am i looking at 2 fish of the same species with variations in color? A male and female? Or 2 different species?

First three pics are the bigger one around 3.5", last three pics are the smaller one around 3".

Lepidota females have a pink belly and spottyin the dorsal fin.
They are both part of the saxatilis family just not sure what species the second pike is from

Thanks, would you agree that the first one is lepidota? I know its difficult at small sizes.
