I'm new to this forum, and have been in the saltwater aquarium game for almost two years. That being said, I finally feel confident enough to try bamboo sharks, the reason I started to begin with...

Now, my confusion... I have had both of my eggs for about six weeks now, and one of them has turned purple....? Anyone have any experience with this?

Im so happy to have found this forum, as I am disappointed to say that the LFS owner near me basically said that if gave me the knowledge, I'd kill less fish and would buy less from him. Couldn't believe he actually said that, but the point being I am so happy to have found a community all for helping each other out... Maybe one day I'll even have the honor of zoodiver, apparent god of all things saltwater, respond to one of my posts. Haha

here is a picture of my two eggs, both of which have been in the same tank for the same amount of time are approximately the same age...

Thanks, i'll try to keep this thread updated. wondering if maybe i have two different types of shark eggs, as the inhabitants seem to differ as well.

Not a god, just been around awhile doing the shark stuff.

Got a close up of the "purple" one? Looks like cyanobacteria from that shot...but I could be wrong. Is it a light slime coat over the egg?
Also, have you put a light behind the two eggs to see inside them? It's a quick and easy way to check on the development of the embryo inside.

i have hatched bamboos to sell before and the purple to me looks like coralline algae so i would back light them to see how the shark is developing u should be able to see the sharks outline by six weeks :)

the process of shining a light behind the egg is called candling, just my 2 cents.

Thanks! I have candled them and they both seem to be developing well! I am so excited about them hatching. The one turning purple seems to be developing more slowly. Will either of those two possible algaes hurt the shark? The other one I can see the eyes very clearly. But no bands? I have absolutely no idea how long to expect before they hatch, but I'm trying SO hard to be patient. Haha
