What is this thing apparently one of my friends has been given it and put it in his tank and even though it’s half the size its cause absolute terror it has taken on and beaten all the Parrots in the tank.

looks like a juvie barred midas. that pattern is normal for all juvie red devils/midas so it could start to color up around 2-3" or it may remain in that barred pattern for life. either way it will be an awesome and very aggressive fish that will grow to around 12".

Very nice one, too! I'd love to get a barred midas...hopefully he stays barred, and doesn't change colour as he gets bigger. He's going to get very big and nasty though, your friend might want to reconsider.

it does look like a juvi midas though
