I was told these were piranha but some think they might be Pacu.

It is a red bellied piranha (Pygocentrus nattereri)

Just a juvenile red belly. Try and ween him on to colour enhancing cichlid pellets and belly comes out a brilliant colour

What would you say the best way to ween them onto pellets is? Right now they mainly eat talapia and shrimp.

Don't feed for a few days to a week and toss some pellets in.

Piranhas won't starve themselves if food is available.

It took my Sanchezi a couple weeks before he was on pellets. It's a very rewarding feeling when you finally witness them go to the surface for the pellets.
