After my female flower of 6 years passed away 1 months ago :cry::cry::cry::cry: I picked up this fella. About 2-3 inches and seems pretty healthy.
I can't tell if it's male/ female yet, help would be nice. Excuse the dirty tank, it's cleaned now.

^^ Thought so too when i got my first one 6 years ago, signed up on here and read how to differentiate between the two. I was hoping for this one to be a male as my 6 years old female had no Kok at all -_-

Man... looks great. I just lost my hybrid as well less than a month ago. Only 4 months old (fish in avatar), but I spent hours with it every day; that fish was amazing. I ended up breaking the tank down and selling the others I had. All I got now is a 55 and a 40. If I were to get a smaller female I'm sure she'd be OK in a 40 for a while...

Do you happen to have pictures of your old flowerhorn? Also, any idea which specific strain of flowerhorn is this? I've seen these at one of my LFS, and noticed one with that blotch on the dorsal that was different from the rest. No idea it was a tell for a female, and it's really making me want to go pick it up. I love the female flowerhorns, they stay much smaller and don't grow that "kok" which doesn't appeal to me but still have that immense personality and aggressiveness.
 
Dude, I've been looking for pictures of her. I'm sad i didn't get to take any pics within these past few years. She was massive. She was about 10-11 inches and really aggressive. I think i can dig up some pics from 2009-2010 when she was about 2 years old. I had the same thought as you, the kok is cool but i loved her, she had great personality :(
