Probably some kind of corn or rat snake. I like the colors!

Yep, young northern water, they lose the color. Did he bite you? Bet he did...they always do (or try). Love those waters :)

I had a water snake (Florida water snake of some kind, don't recall) and it was pretty vicious in terms of biting all the time. Otherwise was an interesting snake though.

no, he was in the middle of the path we were walking on to leave and i just picked him up. he seemed to rather like being held (i think it was the heat of m hand.). i also saw one that was close to 4' swimming on the banks in one of our fishing spots.

The young ones aren't as aggressive, that 4 footer would have torn you a new one though. I get southerns where I am, they have a brown and brownish red pattern their whole lives. Cool snakes.

i dont think it would of. i grabbed it by the tail and it didnt reall pay any notice to me. i just didnt have any where to put it. i think it was just very full, and thats why it didnt bite me.

Oh, I didn't know you picked it up. It probably was full. Those snakes have a high tendancy to regurgitate their prey if disturbed. They look so cool swimming don't they?!
