I.D. this tree?

There were hundreds and hundreds of acres of this type of tree in Mexico. Anybody know what it is?

That seems right. I bit one open (bitter as heck) and there were three little tiny cashew-like seeds inside, but it was obviously a long way from being ripe.

Sure doesn't look like an avocado to me! My parents neighbours grow avo's and kiwifruit.
Could be an almond, although the pic Jason posted has a hairy fruit, but the ones in the OP's post don't look hairy.

you should be careful not to bite into things you dont know... it could kill you like bitter almonds for example.... enough cyanide in there to kill ya
