I did the impossible

It looks like he didn’t remove all the trim and at least left on the plastic center brace. That might help

there shouldn't be a problem, the tank glass is braced by the center divider. If he want's to make it rimless, his call.

Hello; Had a rimless tank become rimless on it's own. Not a 55 gallon tho. Back story is this was in the late 1950's and early 1960's. The tanks came two ways. either with iron angle frames or stainless angle frames. I was 11 or 12 years old and spending chore -lawnmowing money so i bought the cheaper iron painted framed tanks.
As years went by the iron would rust. Eventually I peeled away the rusted and non-rusted frames. Used one 20 gallon long that way for decades. Back then the tanks were sealed with a tar and not with silicone. Also, they had slate bottoms. I was able to salvage those tanks when silicone came along. I finally took the last such tank apart last summer. Had a broken panel. Still have the good sides and the slate bottom.

Let me end with a suggestion. I started using clear silicone to secure clear plastic protection on the exposed glass edges of all my all glass tanks. Those glass edges are prone to chip. Had it happen some. I get the clear plastic corner protectors at hardware stores which carry wallpaper supplies. The plastic is for protecting the outside corners of a wallpaper job.
The plastic is too wide to suit me so i trim the width. This is a tedious bit of work but not difficult. As stated, i use clear silicone to attach the plastic and it holds well enough. Can be removed.
