I dont like petsmart

the petsmart people are some of the biggest idiots when it comes to fish. I know im new to the hobby but some of the things i hear them tell people is outrageous. i was there one day looking at equipment and a couple of girls came in wanting to buy some fish and i over heard their conversation. the one girl wanted a betta and some gold fish and they asked the girl working if they could live together. the girl then rolled her eyes and said "most deffintly not". "the betta will kill any thing that lives with it, thats why the are in cups because they are so mean". i almosted died laughing, I mean I have had bettas in community tanks and they did fine. i have also seen tons of fish stores keeping bettas in community tanks and they were fine. my current betta lives in a tank with a bamboo shrimp and they dont bother each other. then another couple comes in and were looking at some jack demphsey's and asked if they could put 4 of them into a five gallon and the girl said "yes they dont get that big so they will be fine". I mean oh my god is this girl serious or just trying to sell. and the prices on the equipment is alright i have found cheaper. at my local mom and pop stores. sry just had to vent.
 
Wow, someone flaming PetSmart. Again. Bet a little work on your part with the search button could have found a dozen threads like this. And a little more effort on your part would have seen that most people with a brain will tell you that it is store dependant. A little more digging would find threads on your precious "mom and pop" LFS'. There are examples of bad advice given out in these as well. Guess you never knew that or is it too easy to bash a large corporation and not single out a local store that maybe has someone working in it you know. Either stay out or go get a job there and find out it's not standing around next to the fish tanks waiting to impart your vast storehouse of knowledge on an unknowing populace. Go do your homework, search these threads and find out what is expected for the low pay. Or go around to your local stores and question them in depth with your superior intellect and see if they all measure up to your lofty expectations.

Wow, so you are new to the hobby yet have enough knowledge to judge whether or not someone is an idiot or not. Also to be able to judge this person within only a couple short statments.

Did you by any means offer your knowledge to correct the mis information?

your money and word of mouth is your power so just stop shopping there. encourage any fishkeeping friends to use a good lfs you know about instead of the local petsmart if it bothers you that much. write an email to the head office, i did with pets at home (our petsmart equivalent). you will get a crappy answer back but at least you tried instead of moaning about it on here. in the store try and correct people, they will no doubt gain from your little bit of knowledge and you may even learn something. i managed to stop someone buying a texas after "quietly" mentioning to the wife that it can be a mean fish and needs at least a 4ft tank. no doubt that texas was heading for a bi-orb community as the guys face was a picture. even quietly hinting gets results if you dont feel confident enough to confront someone face on. fish keeping is all about learning and sharing knowledge, if the staff doesnt know something is wrong they wont just magically realise its wrong without someone saying something.
but overall these threads are done every couple of weeks, and trying the "im a better keeper" intellectual superiority route will ultimately fail here. it has before by more established members.

while petsmart has very inaccurate information, it has great food products, decorations, and tanks at affordable prices. the only reason why they give false information is because if they gave true information, they wouldnt sell anything. its not like they are that stupid, the information is accessible to anybody. i happen to like petsmart just for the products mentioned above, but not anything else. i used to get fish there, had a bad experience, and will not do so again.
