... anyone on here purchased those 'Orinoco Dwarves' that Rapps had on his list a few months ago. Given I didn't seen an pics on the picture thread, I doubt it but wanted to ask to be sure.

The reason I'm asking is I am trying to determine if the wallacii I have from Colombia are indeed wallacii, the undescribed orinoco dwarf, or a differant undescribed species.

There problem is there are precious few pics out on the web on either the wallacii from Guyana or the 'orinoco' dwarves. My fish are showing coloration and/or patterns of both, but with only 2 pics on the web of wallacii (both male) and 1 of the orinoco male ... well that's not enough to account for stress coloration, fins being folded, ect ect.

So if anyone purchased them, and PP doesn't mind throwing up the pics here instead of the photo longue :naughty: ... any pics of the orinoco dwarf males or confirmed wallacii from Guyana and not Colombia (for comparision - both sexes).

Female and male "sp. Orinoco". They very much look like nothophthalmus but the males do not have the dorsal spikes.

Ah ha!! That helps Scat ... thanks!!!

The pic of the male in The Cichlid Room Companion has the stress line in the male, which covered up the caudal spot. One conflicting detail down. The wallacii pic there of the male doesn't show the iridescence along the dorsal, which mine (and yours) has. Plus that pic of the male wallacii seems to be lacking the tail stripe that noto's, regani, and oricono's have ... but the tail fin is kind of condensed so I can't be 100%.

Given the pic of your males, I am guessing those Colombian 'wallacii' I have are really 'Orinoco's' ... I found a very old referance stating the 'wallacii' from Colombia were really this undescribed species, but it was from like '95 ... dated enough that it could have been wrong.

Also the scientific description states female wallacii from Guyana don't have dorsal spots, but I've been told by Vinny Kutty that they do indeed. Without a pic of a Guyanan wallacii female to compare to mine, it was tough.

Dwarves aren't as bad id'ing as sax, but still a pain at times!!

Thanks again for those pics!!

I love when they beg like pikes 3 times their size.

And you are missed on CF DBS!!
