I've lost three fish this past month. First was my Oscar, which I really wasn't too upset about since I'm surprized it's lived through this past year. It was the one I got for free from the LFS with the worst case of HITH I've ever seen. I guess a fish can't live long with half a face.:(

But then I lost my flounder that I've had for over 7 years and my 5 year old fire eel. This has devastated me. I don't know what happened. The other fish in the tank (180) were fine. The eel had chunks ripped out of him, but I don't know if it happened before or after he died.

Now it is like I don't even want to look in my tanks for fear of seeing another body.

I miss my fire eel greeting me in the morning. I loved hand feeding him shrimp and worms. He had a lot of personality. I actually cried last night feeding my fish, because he wan't there swimming up to meet me.

I don't know if I will replace the eel or the flounder. I'm afraid to get any new fish right now.

Anyways, I feel I can vent on this board because MFKers understand what it is like to lose a loved fish.

Sadness! I've lost fish at random, too. It's like a slap in the face. Hang in there and take the best care you can of the fish you still have.

Thanks you guys. I know you all understand.

Oscar was in the 125, the eel and flounder in the 180.

Water tested fine, I have no idea what caused the eel and flounder to die. The oscar I was sorta expecting to die awhile ago. It had really terrible HITH.

Occupational hazard dude. Never gets any easier, but you will get past this feeling.
You still have other fishies to take care of.
