Some time ago, a small kitten appeared around the salt mine I worked at. the cat would disappear and come back from time to time. About a month ago, the cat started hanging around my area, and bugging the employees. This cat was called the Salt Cat. Oh, sorry to disappoint everyone hoping for a saltwater catfish.

My boss gave me the order to capture this cat. I said, "Alright, just let me get a live trap and I will". He told me to just feed it, and make it friendly. So, over the next few weeks I fed it. It was shy at first, but warmed up to me quickly. It would always follow me around meowing, but would never let me touch it. It would even rub against my leg from time to time, and eat out of my hand. The cat would even come when I called it. Still though, I could never touch the cat. This cat was also known to ride around on the heavy machinery and forklifts.

Yesterday, my boss's boss said the cat had to be gone by today. I told my boss I really need a live trap. He said no. SO, I improvised.

I got a box, a stick, and a piece of string. I tied the string to the stick, and propped the box up with it upside down. The cat is sitting next to me meowing the whole time. i toss the food under the box. The cat approaches, and looks at the box. I couldn't imagine what the cat was thinking. After a good 15 minutes, the cat finally decides to go under the box. I pull the string, the box drops over it, and I hold the box down. And they say old cartoons never taught you anything...

I slid the box (with the cat under it) over a metal sheet. Flipped them over, and hauled it off to another company property where it could live. I set up some food, and released it. the cat was purring, and went straight to the food. I watched it for a bit, and began to walk away when suddenly the cat started rubbing against my leg. I reach down to try and pet it, and it hisses at me. I say, "Well screw you cat!" and walked away. It'll come around.

aww, I could never do that. I would have taken her home... and to the vets.

Theres a cat like that lives in our building complex... after more than a year of feeding, it still won't let any one touch it... although it will do exactly the same as your salt cat i the sense, it will call you, purr, and rub up against you...

But the minute you try and touch her, she hisses or runs away...

There are quite a few feral cats that live on and roam the grounds of the prison complex I work at.A few officers stationed at some of the outside posts offer them food and the cats get pretty close as they eat but they never allow anyone to get close enough to touch them. They always hiss and run away.

My husband was working at a remote logging site. In th early morning hours, the lights from the vehicles would catch a pair of eyes glowing in a brush pile. There were horrible, fierce growls coming from that pile. My husband later discovered it was a cat making those terrible growling sounds. He started putting food out for the cat, each day putting the food closer to him. Cat finally got close enough to pet. On the last day of the logging job, he put food in his truck. The cat jumped in to eat.....came home to us. Gypo (as in gypo logger) was not a feral cat. My husband theorized that Gypo was abandoned in the wilderness, and that hunters were training their hounds to hunt her down. With the logging completed, all the slash was going to be burned. Gypo only made that growl once the first day here. We've never heard it again. She actually has a very soft meow.

We have some cats at the sawmill. We used to leave them food in the parking lot, but this big crazy dog showed up and started eating it & trying to eat the cats. We put some food in the machine shop, so now they get to eat in shelter. They won't let you come within 20+ ft of them unless you are sitting still, and even then if you move they dart.
