I was changing the water earlier today for the malawi cichlid tank, and I noticed something that wasn't quite suctioning into the vacuum....and realized it was a fry from some of the yellow labs. This is the first time I've seen one from this tank.

Ran around, found an old breeder container and net and placed it in.

So I think there was the chance that I may have...suctioned up a bunch of fry without realizing....:(, or some of them may have been eaten due to my failure to notice.

Is there a sign from the fish that they are ready to lay eggs? bloated belly, more/less active, changing colours? I have a bunch of small caves and 'houses' which may be why I did not see if they have laid eggs or not.

don't beat yourself up, it happens (the frys and you sucking them up lol)

you usually see two courting each other, they eat a lot, colors more vivid, breeding tubes down, female full bellied

Females appear plump before spawning and their mouths look full when they've got eggs in em. Mouthbrooders aren't my thing though, hopefully someone else can be of more assistance. If not : cichlid-forum.net
