Don’t use sand. I had one eat some when he ate his crickets and he could pass it through his system so he didn’t make it. Use paper towels as the ground so they are easy to throw away when they get dirty. He will eat crickets and other bugs. Keep fresh water in the tank. Might need to get a heating pad, also get a light and a hiding place for it. Don’t use the heating rocks they burn them selves on those to easy. They are easy to take care of but not much of the holding type, like snakes and other reptiles.

I was thinking of getting the little wood pieces to lay out all around and some drift wood as cover. So do i need to get a heat pad and a lamp?

It looks like a leopard gecko for sure, they can be handled (gently) but since he was running around "wild" he probably isnt used to people. I hear the sand issue a lot, you can use papertowels but it doesnt look too nice, maybe try some of that reptile carpet if you want. I don't think the wood bark is a good substrate because these are from the sand/desert so it may not be too ideal. A heating pad isn't needed if you get a good heat lamp for it, that should keep him warm enough. Buy him some crickets gutload them and dust them first with some calcium supplement, keep the water clean and make sure that it has a hiding spot(they hide/sleep A LOT!) Also I hear issues about needing humidity for shedding their skin, make sure to make a small container like a butter tub or something with a hole in it and some wet paper towels to have a little "sauna" to help him shed, then he will eat the skin! Good luck, these are really good pets and all the stuff you need will be pretty cheap, make sure you get a light/lamp!

thanks for the tip, gonna buy them tomorrow since its to late to go out.

Leos normally do great on sand, its said not to keep them on it because they may injest it, you could solve the feeding proble by buying a smaller tank to feed it in, or yiou could keep it on news paper, or shreaded paper...just keep the little bugger warm, and his belly full of crickets.

i have had my leopard geckos on sand whenever i had them.i like to go with what they naturally live on,because in the wild, they adapted to live on that substrate.i have my current leopard gecko on dirt in my tokay geckos tank.i was worried for a minute cause i didnt know if they would get along(i had a previous experience with a tokay gecko/nile monitor tank that didnt work out)but they do,and they have been in the same tank for about 7 months.

i forgot to say that they like heat rocks.

NO they can cause serious burns and are way outdated. i cant believe anybody still uses them. BTW thats a CARROT leopard gecko, distinguished by the orange on his tail. they are danm expensive here. like 80 bucks.
