how big was your red devil compared to them? Did you add the red devil last?

yeah but they where all about the same size

I assume that their all about 4-5". Even though they are the same size, a new addition can still be out of place in the pecking order and not familiar with the tank. Red Devils can and will fight back, but being new to the tank and not having a chance to display its dominance could have led to its death by the others. I know you said South American, but what specific species? It's important to understanding what may have happened.
