so i been talking to my GF about Dats for the past month or so and she decided to get me an extra x-mas gift today! ...she bought me a little 1.5-2" DAT...its been 3 hours since he's been in the tank and he's already swimming around and exploring. he took a couple nibbles of F/D shrimp too!

i apologize for the crappy pics..he looks alot better in person ;) ...

2 questions: can anyone ID him for me please? and will his rear end color up or will it stay black like that? ...tia

Looks like an Indo. It could be stressed still, so give it a couple of days and see if the colors improve.
 
I have a similar sized indo dat. It will color up but for a dat that size, I would say it is likely that it will be months before it colors up based on my experience.
 
thanks for the replies...i'm not worried to much about the color ....even if he never colors up it doesnt matter ;) ...my GF said that our Dat was the most active and healthy looking one they had, so she got him for me.

sorry 1 more question: how many adult Dats can live in a 4' x 2' x 2' 120 gallon tank?
 
I'd say at least 4 comfortably. But you can always move up to a bigger tank. Just make sure that your prepared with a plan of attack before buying more.
