In the fish section LOL
I have been looking into doing a DIY wet dry/ sump filter for my 150 for a while now. I already have an ehiem 2217 and a ehiem pro 3 on it but i really want to make a sump filter to get some expierience with all the plumbing etc. Please excuse all the questions but i am new at this.

As of now I have a spare 29 gallon tank i would like to use as a sump starter. I know how it basically works with an inflow into the sump from one side of the tank with a pump of some sort at the other end up the sump on the bottom getting the water back in on the other side through a spray bar a suppose?

Now, my biggest problem that i can forsee right now. The back of the tank only has 5" of clearence for all of the over flow components, not that much room i know... What type of overflow box should i look into because drilling the tank at this point is not an option. It is completely set up and running, to take it down and drill would be too much of a hassal. Now of the actual plumbing can someone tell me the basic sizes of pvc and tubing i will need and can someone be kind enough to either draw up or direct me to a model of a sump so i can see the compnents.

The biggest help i need is on pump suggestions and the overflow?
If there is anything i missed please fell free to add on ideas.

thanks to all
Oscar

looking for some more imput, sorry guys i am new to this and yes i have looked into the pvc overflow, how does it work, is it effective, does it keep syphon and will it flood my basement

The various overflows that you will find on this site all get you to the same point. Are you wanting to build one yourself, or purchase one. Buying a HOB overflow box is the easiest way to do it and they are the most reliable in operation. (baring using extra pumps for siphon) If you want to build one, do the DIY overflow that many have already done, down side is you will need two of them. I think both will fit within your 5" space and allow you to filter what ever you want.

To give you exact answers, we need to know specifically what you are going to do with this sump. Are you going to remove the other filters? Will this just be an add on to the current setup or would you like to use it independently? What kind of flow rate would you want out of this setup?

BTW, 1" pipe will not get you 1200gph. You would need to go to a larger size for that kind of rate. You would need something more like 1.5" to get 1200gph.
