Hey everyone. I work at an LFS and the other day someone gave me an eheim classic 2215 canister filter. It appears I am missing those grey valve pieces that split the hoses. I'm sure you know what I mean.

So I don't have them, what could I use in place of them, assuming I cannot find them for a reasonable price?

I've never found a good replacement for the Eheim ones. You should be able to find the Eheim double tap valves for the 2215 easy enough online. The hoses for the suction and outlet are the same size- 12/16mm so you will need two sets of part #4004412.

Those double tap valves are so incredibly useful. They make maintenance much easier. You don't need them, but I love em.

So I could conceivably set up the filter without them? Now, I realize why they are useful. You can shut off the flow while keeping water inside the tubing, and disconnect them for maintenance. This means no re-priming. Well, priming is not really that bad with these. The design is bloody brilliant. Can't I just skip them and just use tubing, assuming I don't mind re-priming the filter after each cleaning?

You don't need to have the double tap valves, it just makes it easier to disconnect the canister and leave the intake and output hoses in the aquarium.

+1 agreed. Don't need em, but they do make maintenace much easier. You can definitely run them without the double taps if you don't mind repriming them. They will still work flawlessly. When you get tired of repriming and want to make life easier, there's always that option. In reality you shouldn't have to clean out your canister very often anyways.

i am new to the canister filters. and i have a eheim 600 and the valves have come in handy. i didnt know what they were at first and did not install them at first but now that i know what they are the maintenance is much easier.
