I'm 99% positive, anyway; it looks just like photos I find of them and the guy at the lfs told me it was a freshwater snowflake eel.

I'm finding out that it is really a brackish water fish, so I'm going out to buy some marine salt tomorrow. I understand that 1.010 specific gravity is ideal. common sense tells me that I should build up to that level gradually, how slowly should I increase the salinity. any ideas for tank mates? it is just in a 20 gallon, eventually to be in a 55.

Any other snowflake eel or general brackish advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks

I'm gonna try to take some pics with my phone.

Sounds like you got it under control. The only thing is that remember that these moray eels are used to there water gravity to vary. If you think about it they would go up and down rivers going closer and farther from the ocean. The reason that they people call the FW eels is because they travel up river to lay eggs. The change to such low gravity is what makes them spawn. There are storys of people having them in high salinity and then bringing them down to almost ocmplete FW and them spawning eggs because it simulates them going up river. Alot of people will do water changes as normal and every once in a while do a water change pure FW to simulate them traveling in the wild. They can stand a little more then half of the gravity of the oceon (which is about 1.024). SO i would suggest varying it in between 1.009 and 1.013. I would raise it pretty slow as i like to be on the safe side even though they are known to be able to take large leeps in the salinity and be just fine as they move up and down rivers all the time.

thanks, guys. just got a couple of spotted puffers. hopefully they'll all get along. going to work them up to brackish, then eventually totally marine. right now got them in fw, with aquarium salt added. buying marine mix tomorrow. got a lot to learn, and I'll be back for questions and advice. thanks.

this is a pretty big change; only kept new world cichlids up until now.
