I got a powerhead should I use it?

I got an old 300 GPH powerhead sitting on my aquarium shelf. Should I use it on my 55 ? I hooked it up once and it blew my plants around alot I am wondering if the fish will like it? I have an UGF I could hook it up to but I don't have the attachment. So yay or nay?

PS I have a jack dempsey a Blue acara and a 7 " or so poly bichir with an UGF a top fin 60 HOB and an eheim 2215
 
eh, i really wouldn't. you dont need the extra flow and if it messes with your plants, its just annoying. i hate ugf's, and if you dont have anything to run it, there's no point in putting it in.
 
I should have specified " It blew my PLASTIC plants around" I don't have live plants yet :)

My UGF is powered by two big ass air pumps and I like it. Alot of the pro's / breeders use them for their consistency I always have and always will use them :)
 
Hmmm, the HOB is providing some water flow...and the powerhead could actually serve as an additional filtration unit, just cover the intake with a sponge. Powerheads have their place outside of current as the movement produced can make optimal use of the filtration you already have.

If placed correctly, the current will help keep waste suspended and increase the chance of it being picked up by the HOB intake (given the fact they are on opposite sides. Just dial the flow down.
 
I don't know if i can adjust the flow its an old maxi jet lol
 
yea maxi jets arent able to lower the flow rate. once i get some zip ties, im going to zip tie some quilt batting to the intake of my two maxi jets so i can improve my mech filtration :D
