i got him friday morning, shipped from cichlid station. i gota say, you can never really appreciate the beauty of these fish untill you see one swimming in your own tank. lol. hes just over 4" and is doing great with his tank mates. i decided to give the gar/aro combo a try with my 8" florida and 7" shortnose since they are all young. there in my 75g growout and im either gonna move them right to my 300ish gallon or build a ply 150g for fun lol. i love this fish haha
i wish i could take better pictures to show how good looking he is. heres some pics of him and the setup.

Introducing at that size is bad. The aro is to small to defend itself and the gar are big enough to make the aro into a meal.

A couple of scenarios with aro and gar similar in size to yours

i must have mixed up my measurments. the aro is just over 5" another fish i got for another tank in the shipment is around 4". lol its late. its been 37 1/2 hours since he was released into the tank with no problems. both gar have been of live feeders since i got them, not that that makes much of a difference. its a risk ive been debating for awhile and decided it should work based on how my gars are with smaller tank mates. the thing that worries me is the aro chasing a gar into the glass and breaking a nose/back. im still keeping an eye on them and will be moving someone immediately if there are any bad signs. thanks for the concern.

nice baby silver... i have three 8" silvers with my 11" florida gar and some big polys. what are you feeding yours?
