Just picked up an 18" spotted gar for $30!!! The owner of the LFS had someone drop off the gar and a spotted giraffe catfish and the Gar has been sitting in the store for 1 year. The owner origanally had $150 on for the price. Went in last week and he had $50 obo. I told the $30 and i would walk with him. Eureka!!!! Will post pics when I get a new camera.

He's in a 220, wonder what type of fish mates. Severum? Discus? Something that obviously won't fit into that dagger filled mouth.

Suggestions please.

Thanks

cichlids and gars are generally not a good combo, and a gar would surely tear apart a slow-moving fish like a discus even if it were too big to swallow. i would go with bichirs, some species of peaceful catfishes, African arowana, south american lungfish...there are lists of viable gar tankmates if you search for them--

i agree. i would avoid aggressive cichlids and most other tankmates can be hit or miss. try to keep other larger docile fish with it.

are fronts a good bet? I see that lots of people have them listed on their fish lists and such. I guess I just answered my own Q
