Today was suppose to be my first day on that new job of mine. Well I show up at the store at 9AM as told, knock on the door, and this guy opens up the store and asks me who am I. I told him that I was the new guy, hired just few days ago. He looks at me and tells me that he is not away of anyone hiring anybody and asked me who told me that I got the job.. and I told him the lady manager. He just looked at me and said okay and told me to go talk to her and that she is in the bird room.
I come in and say good morning and what-not she does the same and then she just proceeds to feed the birds. So I am standing there for 5 minutes with her in the room in complete silence so then I say umm you need help with anything or something?.. she told me here, you will be cleaning these everyday pointing at a wall of bird cages. I FLIPPED OUT! I tell her that I was aiming more for the fish department and we still did not even discuss how much I am going to get paid. She tells me to go talk to the guy in the fish room, he is the store owner and he will tell me everything about the money.
I go back to the entrance where the fish room is, and turns out the guy who opened the door for me was the store owner. So I started talking to him telling him that I was hired few days ago and was asked to come in today and talk to you about the job itself and how much I am going to get paid. He looks at me and tells me that he was not even aware they were going to hire anyone yet alone that they did hire me. I told him that I am not interested in working with birds at all and that I would like to work with fish. He tells me that he completely understands me and hates the birds himself thats why he is hanging out with fish the whole day. He then tells me that he does not even know why she asked me to work in the bird room since they got so many people in there as it is and that he actually would not mind another person in the fish room.
He tells me that if I am interested he will call me back and the start pay is is $6/hour. He asked me if I know anything and I basically without waiting for a second named all the fish in the tanks next to us and said that I am keeping my own fish tanks for some time now and that I have worked in another fish store for 6 months and was about to become a manger and left because I simply did not like the store. I tell him I am looking at $7.50 CASH as a BARE MINIMUM with a raise in the future once I prove myself. I talked about fish little more and he tells me that I know my stuff. Pulled out a piece of paper and tells me to write down all my info again and he will go straighten everything out with everyone since he was not even aware and call me back in a day or two in regards about the fish department job.
I am pissed that I was asked to come in without a reason, had to get up ay 7AM! I am pissed that the manager is a complete idiot that does not know how to communicate with people and apparently other employees and even the store owner. I am happy that I had a nice conversation with the owner and it seems like I got on his good side.
.... now Ill have to see what happens in two days.
