Oscar Tummy
If I can convince any of the digitalized people around me to help, I will show you a picture or three of my new O. He/she (to soon to vent, skinny area fight now) came from a Burien, Wa pet store and they got him from Rapps, so I'm totally proud of him! His dark areas fade from velvet black to a mottled olive and sometimes almost yellow. He's still getting settled in, so photos taken now would only reduce his glory. But it's the standard wild patterning with heavy yellow/gold coloring in the 'shoulder' region, if he were, say, a cow. So I guess you might say superior to the pectoral fins and distal to the top of the operculum. Gotta eat now...

I just noticed him tilting in the current below a filter and got worried, but he kept moving and once he left the current, he righted himself again. Then I remembered Oscars are smarter than gravity, and he probably wanted to be sideways just then. I'm hoping.

neat

Hey, his left eye looks like is has a cataract over the pupil, but a little toward the front of his head. Is that a temporary thing from being moved or could the melafix and pimafix I've added help it out? I know catfish kept at too high a pH get cloudy eyes. Should I throw some driftwood in there? I've got plenty of it in the basement. The pH is currently at 6.8. Is that too high for Peru?

Well, he made it through the night. He's still sooooooo shy! He'll be swimming normally but then tries to become mud if I get close to the tank. Silly wild fish. Thinking I'm going to eat him or something...

Since when has A Place For Pets ordered from Rapps? Last time I talked to Kevin (granted, it's been a couple months) he told me Rapps was too expensive and he ordered mostly from Don Conkel.

Oh, hey, I don't want to start anything between fish lords here. I never said it was A Place For Pets. I'm just one random customer who bought an oscar one day.
It's hard to stay away from the tank while he adjusts. Should I stay away? Or should I stay near so he gets used to me, too?
He's maintaining his black color phase and swimming slowly across the back of the tank, not looking bad at all, but still very camo. Actually, his color is a sort of bronze speckle. He looks like those horrible mustard and black denim clothes at the thrift store, so for now we're calling him Levi. Or Levi's. Not sure yet. I'd rather name him for his patterning, but it's just a big sideways bronze 'T' and then a vertical bar. Maybe Bar-T. Or Bart. Still rolling em out...
But he eats like a pig! I'm so happy! My Green Terror starved himself until HITH began to appear as a pinhole in the center of his forehead. He's on earthworms now, and I'm working on injecting them with other foods to sneak nutrients into him, but that's a mess I'm glad I don't have here. This O pounced the first pellets into the tank. They didn't even make it to the floor! Ninja eater, he is!

no feeders..............pellets, I doubt Rapps was giving him feeders

Yeah! I've tried small amounts of three different types of pellet now and he's downed them all without thinking about it. Finally, nutrition made simple!

Oh, you mean the guppies. They were keeping the tank cycled while it was waiting for him.
