So I was picking up a new 30 gallon tank from the local animal shelter that had been given by someone that was moving. The tank has a ridiculous stock list, including a large scat, the columbian shark (catfish), 3 albino corys, and 2 fancy goldfish
. But anyways, I am taking the fish out of the tank to transport them, and I get to the columbian shark. Unknown to me, the dorsal spines are venoumous. Well, being the smart kid that I am, and only having access to a net that is about 2 inches square, I just decide to hand move all the fish, because I hear that the whiskers of the catfish can get damaged in a net. I chase the fish for a little, and finally am able to pick him up. Well when I take him out of the water I pause for a few seconds because I am intrigued by the cool buzzing sound the fish has started to make. Then, I feel like a bee just stung my finger
. I drop the fish
and slip a few naughty words, and the whole staff of the animal shelter comes to see what happened. When I tell them, of course they all stick around to see me try to catch it again. This time I say screw it and use the little net. When I tell people this story they all wonder if I'm telling the truth, but now I caution everyone else with these fish. Make sure to steer clear of the fins. I am not alergic, but I can see something bad happening if you were alergic to their venom. It feels just like a bee sting by the way. I guess I have a cool story about that fish now at least.
