I guess crayfish are a big no......

The pet store said I would be ok, and the blue crayfish is really cool.

But he might as well be a lumberjack, if it has a stem, he is cutting it down. Not even really eating it, just chopping it in half.

I guess that is pretty standard?
 
I also made this mistake... It now has it's own tank.
The crayfish would clip the plant off at the base, eat a small section, let it float to the top, and then repeat. Never had a problem with it bothering the fish though, too slow.
 
I haven't tried them, but the dwarf crayfish (Cambarellus species) are supposed to be plant-safe. C. schufeldti and C. patzcuarensis are the most commonly available species.
 
lol I tried this once when I kept natives. I loved my plants and spent quite some time collecting different kinds. I added about a dozen crays to let them fight it out for territories, with the weak ones that couldnt control a cave being removed. Once the initial aggression over territories was completed, they just walked around destroying all plant matter. this angered me a bit. They then became puffer food.
