I was just wondering cause it seems that you are the pike person on here
I really like the look of these guys (Crenicichla sp. 'cobra') after seeing yours and am intrested in getting some
But could you tell anything about them size tank size, if they are easy to come by, and are the expensive cause they are really killer looking
Thanks

They are pretty hard to come by, so if you can find some jump on it. Rapps :swear: (curse his name) sells them every so often at 65 u.s. dollars a pop. :)

Minimum tank size would be a 75...but larger would be better. In a 75gal you would probably only be able to get away with one cobra, maybe some other fish. In a tank that small if you had a pair the male may beat up the female too much and kill her....so i wouldn't risk it. They are aggressive, but not as aggressive as some of the other Lugubris pikes. As they mature, they lose their juv. coloration and become rocket red, its rather kewl to watch them do actually. Beautiful as adults, females more so than the males, but the males are still attractive. They are rather hard to come by, since the collection window for them is rather limited. Aquatico (Don) has some still I believe, and Anthony from AnthonysTropicalFish has some as well....;). Crenicichla sp. 'cobras' are also referrred to as Crenicichla sp. 'tapajos I'. Just look around, you may get lucky. For Canada though, i dunno what to tell yaz. Below Water (Oliver) is the main Canadian importer of SA cichlids....maybe check wit him.

cool thanks for the info but how big do they get and in a 150 if i got one in there could i put it with other fish everything i have read just says that they are really mean but how mean compared to what type of fish

All Lugubris pikes get AT LEAST 12" long...with the big majority of them gettin above 14" easily. Thats a pretty big fish. Generally pikes are aggressive, but they aren't always search out other fish and kill them aggressive. Some cases yes, and if you pike is pickin on a fish you will probably have to remove that fish cuz it won't stop. I keep my pikes with all sorts of cichlids. Its pretty much a guessin game....some fish will get along with the pike, others won't. Pikes can handle their own with practically all types of cichlids. I've had mine with geos, true parrots, jags, oscars, convicts, salvini, severums, and red devils just to name a few....;)

for multi fish in a 150 the decor has to be right. get 2-3 different wood works and 2-3 different plumbing pipes with some java moss. Have some kind of top area swimmer (that they cant/wont eat) like a gar or African Pike (characin pike), they get along til you put feeders in LOL.

Sometime I find less fish (more room to run) is nice and sometimes more (distraction from other fish). But of course if you end up with the baddest 1 then niether matter as Ive seen many pikes, rd and others kill everything smaller or bigger.
