A long long time ago, I had a gold opaline gourami in a 10 gallon, with my bro's dwarf african frog. It would always peck at it, but we didn't mind. One day we came back from vacation to find that it was eating the frog, which had a missing leg.
Are gouramis really notorious for this kind of behavior?

yeah some gouramis can be &$%#$%'es, especially the "larger" (basically just non-dwarf) ones like snakeskin, pearl, and opaline. but it really comes down more to the individual fish than anything else

I had a gourami attack the hell out of my 5 goldfish. Til he died WOOT!

one of my honey gouramis (approx 4-5 inches) killed a 3 inch peacock bass. Took the p.bass' tail into its mouth and then twisted it back and forth real quick breaking the bass' back

Yeah, that's why i kept my two gold gouramis in my cichlid tank; they are always at the top anyway, and they can handle themselves well even with the breeding convicts.
