My small weeksii finally started eating tonight! :headbang2 :D

Here's the story behind her:

I got her about 2 months ago and the first night she was in the tank, she got her ass kicked by my female ornate, because she tried to wedge into the ornate's turf.

Decimated tail fin and a crazy bite on her face that I thought for sure was going to make her lose her right eye.

She's always been thin and I tried earth worms, shrimp, krill, massivore, etc.. but she wouldn't take anything.

Finally, she gave up and started eating tonight and she'll have a solid belly by tomorrow afternoon if she keeps up.

Also, my lap that wasn't eating decided to play "monkey see, monkey do" because after adding five other laps with good appetites, all of a sudden it competes muuuch better for food. :D :headbang2

If anyone else has experience with hunger strikes (I know keeper does), it would interesting to hear about your experience. It's hard at first to keep calm the first time you experience it, but later it becomes something you can deal with, but just REALLY happy when it ends.

My old lap would go on hunger strikes and yes the first time it happens it can be very unerving. My cure was simple and discovered by mistake I added some silversides to the tank and 1 got hung up in a fake plant so I just left it there next mornong it was gone the others were still there. So when hungerstrikes occured I would place the silversides in plants with there tail sticking out.Worked like a charm. Why?I think it stimulated its hunting instinct-Anne

My ornate is on hunger strike. It will occasionally (maybe once every couple weeks) take one bite of market shrimp. But last time it took it, the delhezi stole it out of its mouth and it hasn't touched shrimp since. I know it has eaten at least 1 feeder after that ordeal, but until I can get my 100 running and seperate the ornate I just have to assume it's eating enough to stay alive.

My senegal seems to be going through an semi hunger strike in that he isn't eating fd krill anymore but will still eat frozen bloodworms

have you tried earthworms? :D

drives them nuts, and it's a healthy high protein diet.

Do you cut them up or feed them whole? I have some red wigglers that are fairly small, I guess I could try dropping a couple of those in.

red wrigglers can be dropped in whole.

night crawlers though, I do cut into smaller pieces. I clean them out (rinse in running water then squeeze down the length of the worm to clean out the mud and what not), then cut them into quarters.

The main reason I do is is that it makes it faster and easier for the bichirs to eat, but it also avoids aggression between them.

When they latch onto the same worm, they will deathroll which is cool to watch, but they also thrash around and can hurt themselves.

You could always buy the farmed ones for fishing over at ol' wally mart

That's where I get mine, but I live in an apartment complex. = /
