no not hard to maintain.. but hell if I didnt wash it it would take a week to settle down If you wash it pretty good it'll settle down in 24 - 48hrs. Not to mention when you vac the bottom it wont kick up and cloud the water. I'm washing about 5-7 buckes of water to every single bucket of sand.
It's funny that you posted this, as I just got done rinsing 40 lbs of black sand. I probably could've done a better job though, as my tank is still pretty cloudy.
nope.. I'm setting up a new tank and I needed to add 100lbs of new sand to my already washed 60lbs of sand. Normally I just vac the bottom, no washing required in a established tank
If I had to do that each week I think I'd go bare bottom tank
Why not do it all at once? In a big trashcan or something. Put the hose at the bottom and let er rip for a while....And yes...ALWAYS wash pool filter sand before use....
I just pour the whole 50lb bag in a large bucket and stick a hose down to the bottom and plunge it up and down into the sand...let the water spill over the bucket (outside or in the tub) untill it runs clear...worked really well...did about 200lbs of sand about 1 month ago.
