Afew days ago I sold one of my favorit fish, he was beating up all of my fish since he was bigger. I wanted to keep him but I didnt want to keep a divider in the tank and I didnt see anychanges once my other fish started growing. so I was thinking the best thing to do was to sell him, I get the money and I feel the joy of going and looking for a new fish. Like a kid going to get a new toy! I found a awesome clownknife fish and brought him home. The next Day he got bit by my tiger fish, hes ok and in a different tank healing up. But taking a good look at my tiger fish and hes starting to show more aggression tords my scombs and catfish but he dosent seem to pic on the ray at all but its still stuck in my head that what if he dose. looking back at all the other fish I wanted I couldnt get cuz of the tigerfish. I love the tiger fish and spent alot of money on him. I was planning on making a 500g or more but thats a big tank and whats the fun of having it if I can only keep one fish in it. I always feel like im going to come home and find them all dead from him. I want to be able to go and buy fish with out having to worry about my other fish killing it. I like rays alot but Im not going to pay that much for another one just to fined one day a chunk or an eye missing from him. But the tiger is awesome and theres no fish like him, my friends like him and its awesome knowing that I see a fish every day in person that not alot of people get the chance to see. What do you guys think? keep him, sell him, what?

Sorry this is so long and going on and on but I need help and dont have anyone to talk to about this. please dont send me hate mail, Im just a kid with a dream and im doing the best I can, Thank you!

what would you guys do? you can be open to what you have to say! thank you!

Kyle, I hate to say it but it sounds like the Tiger fish just isn't what you are looking for in your aquarium. We all have different reasons for the fish that we have and some of the fish I have are for many of the same reasons you do, I want the freedom to make changes and things without worrying if one of them is going to kill them all. That being said, I think you should sell him. There are surely MANY qualified Tiger fish owners here.

I am having the opposite problem in one of my tanks, I have a delhizi bichir in with an endlii, oscars, red texas, leaf fish, barking catfish, and a couple others, the delhizi is just growing too slowly and will soon become food for the fast growing others. I have elected to sell. Good luck man!

Thanks man, I know what your saying. Thinking about it, I could always get another one down the road when the time is right. I hope you can work out everything in your tank. Thanks agen!

Have you tried reducing the temp slightly in the tank and adding more of similar agression fish, these two things can curb the aggression of fish, bit colder equals a bit slower, and more fish means aggresion is spread around the tank meaning that he has too watch his back as well as being a bully, has worked for me but also hasnt, it helps that i have a massive sump to handle the extra bioload of an over stocked tank
,. P.s i have had to get rid of fish too for this same reason i feel for you i miss my GT lots lol

to add to the list of things to try, adding new fish or switching around (or adding) decor could mess with their territory and might help temporarily*. Also, if you ever get around to getting a huge tank (I mean big), most likely your fishes won't have too much trouble with each other.

was it the tat that you got rid? For a while, I been thinking the same thing. There is no fun in a single specimen tank... it's the reason I got similarly aggressive fish to put in with mine. I love characins but if it meant only keeping one single specimen and on top of that, if it's a slow grower, I wouldn't have the patience to put up with it.

First question is how big is the tank? Fish are territorial and if they don't feel like they have a certain amount of territory they may be more aggressive.

Second thought was that since these fish are more aggressive what you can try is take all the fish out and rearrange all the decor around make sure the environment is very complex with many broken sight lines. A good way to do this is using plastic plants and you can get pretty cheap packs of them off amazon too.

Ok thanks guys, Thinking about it now the knife was alot smaller than I thought so Im going to try agen when hes bigger. The tank dosent have alot in it and alot of open space, Ill take a pic tomorrow. Ill try changing the temp, I normaly hav it 78 to 80. yes it was the tat :( Thinking about it, I miss him alot but they do better with larger beefy fish and he was alot larger. He didnt act like tats ive seen on youtube and what people have said about them. I tryed many different times and tricks to get him to not pic on the others but nothing worked. I got worryed because I was running out of tank space and By the time my other fish would be bigger it would be too late and would be in a bad habbit of being solo. Once my scombs go and I have a larger tank open were I dont have to worry about this, I would love to get an armatus but when times right. But thanks agen guys!

unfortunately sometimes what ever you do, and no matter the temprament the fish is "supposed to have" it just doesnt work, that is the thing that we love and why we dont keep gold fish, it is the individual personalities of the fish that keeps this hobby as exciting and interesting as it is.....good luck
