I bought him a couple days ago, he isn't even an inch yet and he is just hiding under his rock and is very shy I understand that's normal, but he spits out flakes and doesn't seem to like anything he tries has anybody had success with any other foods? Thanks

I have noticed that my EBJD and rams will spit out food then go back and eat it again. I don't know if they are biting it into smaller chunks to swallow or what. Perhaps your jag is doing the same thing?

I usually rotate one frozen pellet like blood-worm or a veggie blend in per day to mix up their diet, in addition to some dry shrimp and hikari gold pellets daily.

Give it time. It'll eventually eat once it settles. My pair of jags didn't eat till the second week...even then, they were only eating food particles from its tank mates. Now, they eat to the point where they try to gulp up so much food that they have to spit them out...only to be eaten by the others. The pellets come out whole. Instinctively, they learn to compete for food.

give him time, I would switch now from flake to a pellet, NLS makes a small pellet called new start. but there are others. keep in mind your little guy is in i am fish food mode. and will be for a few months to come.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions, and help. I will do as you say , from what I've been reading they are all very shy fish at first I am going to try little live worms and live fish like small guppys my smaller jag had a fish in his mouth 1 hour after I put him in there he is also under an inch he is the one that's OK the other one is the shy one

you have another little jag in the tank, this makes a world of difference.
