My plants have been doing great lately. So great that one of my swords grew a chute straight up and out of my tank! What should I do? Just cut it off?

Both of my swords(which are fairly new) keep sending off shoots that baby swords are growing from. I've kept a few of the babies but lately I've just snipped the shoots off at the base of the plants to encourage more leaf growth instead of more propagation. Don't know if this is advisable or not though. I've read that this shoot will sometimes grow above the water and actually flower but this is generally rare I think in a covered aquarium.

shoot as in new leaf or chute as in some tube thing?
the leaf just leave the tank lights'll dry it out and the leaf will die when it gets too far out of the water.
if it's the tube thing, CONGRADULATIONS! you plants are trying to breed!

Its a new leaf... chute... thingy. It is growing right out of the back where I had my hob filters. I'll take a pic when I get home... I'd say it is a good 4 inches out of the tank by now. I guess I could just cut it off.

You'll see baby swords start to grow off that shoot and they'll even send off roots. You can cut them off then and plant them elsewhere if you want more swords.

Here are some pics I took this afternoon. I don't think its going to grow another sword right out of the tank. I guess I'll cut it then?

Dude looking good aside from the frigging POT!! Havent we had this discussion before(JK). Seriously your tank looks great and the fact that the sword is breaking the surface means that you are doing it all right. If you need to, holler at me and Ill send you some nice wood for that tank , just PLEASE lose the pot(J/K again).

I'll get rid of the pot as soon as I find a piece of driftwood that I like... I have been browsing the lfs's but haven't found the right piece just yet.
