I acquired a 100 gl acrylic ( cleaning it and making a stand for it right now ). I still have my 30 gl that i want to keep and house by JD's for feeding the monster in the 100gl.

Ok here it is , its going to be confusing for i dont have schematics drawn out.

Overflow from the 100gl monster tank to the 30gl Jd tank. Now I want to build a sump for the the entire system. The 30gl is going to sit under the 100gl inside the stand i want to build the sump next to the 30gl. BIG question is how to I get the over flow or basically the water from the 30gl to the sump if its side by side? do i use another pump to pump it in the sump ? then another pump in my sump for the return? can you catch my drift ? hahah

Thanks for everything guys..

I got a 100 gl acrylic 5' by 20" bye 20", 250 wtt heater and power head on craigs list for 40 bucks!!!. Will post pics this weekend on the stand making and sump if I can get an idea.

This idea is MFK people inspired. :)

I think if you have the sump beside the 30G you can use a siphon to draw the water into the second tank the only problem I forsee is if you lose the syphon. a durso standpipe should fix that though and sizing your siphon could be a little tricky. you will need the level in the 30G to be abov the level you are starting at in the sump or it won't syphon. I believe if you use pumps you run the risk of one moving more that the other and flooding the house so be careful

YEs damn, this is complicating. This is going to be an outdoor tank by the way.

So your saying pump to pump is not a good idea because the risk of flooding ?

what if i make a separate over flow just for the sump?

My idea is really getting the water to circulate and filter them all together.

You are going to need an overflow box to put on the 30G to keep the level high while still overflowing into the sump. Have the 100G flowing into the 30G.

how do i overflow the water into the sump if there side by side on the floor ?

Just use a typical HOB overflow box to go from the 30G to the sump. Should work fine.
