Sooo my green Texas cichlid and my flowerhorn have eloped. I now have fry. I wonder what these guys are going to look like? I posted a picture of the parents. Please excuse the tank. We took the Pleco out.

Deff a flowercon. Should make some nice looking hybrids.

I don't think she is a flowercon. This isn't her normal coloring.

I agree, It seems every time one shows a barred fish many jump to this conclusion. There are many central american cichlids that come in barred forms as well as a more common non barred form like a midas or red devil. Then there is the ones that bar up when brooding fry which is what is going on with yours i believe. Heck look at your texas male in the picture and he has bars in the back half of his body right now to. Now since flowerhorns are hybrid fish themselves with many of these cichlids that can come barred it should not be a shocker either. I have seen many barred female flowerhorns especially some of the older less fancy strains and younger smaller females not yet full grown. How big is your female now?

That is true, however the reason I say Flowercon is because of its distinctive barring - the bars on a Convict hybrid generally extends into the fins itself, plus the bright belly. Of course that isn't to say that it IS a Flowercon, but it does sure look like one... hence I say it looks like one. Could be anything.

So no, not jumping to conclusions just because 'oh bars - Convict'. I actually noticed the very specific bars-extending-to-fins in a number of Convict hybrids already.

I see what you mean but I think the barred area in the top finage is what helps id it as female. I have several texas and texas flowerhorn hybrids and that is one of the ways to id female over male.
