Hello MFKers, I recently just noticed small convict fry in my tank. I didnt even realize I had a mating pair. My question is can I move the fry's in another tank along with the parents? I have other fish in the same tank and afraid that they will be eaten.
mom and dad will protect them for a while... but this could lead to yer other fish getting beaten up.. so its best to move the whole family.. or after 3-5 days just move the fry...

The most succesful, least stressful, way I used was to siphon them out. Use a 3/8" or 1/2" hose. Put a bucket only a few inches lower than the tan, to make the water move slowly, and siphon away. Move the parents first. I think this will reduce stress on them. When I remove fry from my tanks, they go nuts attacking the hose.
ive always seen it as multiple just because when i say the sentence "my fish had fry!" as compared to "my fish had a fry!" it seemed more proper to say it the first way.
i guess its all just based on opinion.
syphon is by far the best way to move/catch fry... 1/2 hose has worked the best for me.. just be sure to get some water in the bucket first so you dont smash them against the bottom...
and if you dont know... homedepot/lowes... its like $10 for a 10foot roll of clear vinyl
