First how do i post on here , is this the right way?? my other questions involve saltwater!! I have a 10 gallon saltwater tank with 30lbs of live rock ,5 snails ,and 5 hermit crabs, the only fish i have in there is a blue damsel about a half an inch long, what coral should i put in there, im new at saltwater but i know enough to keep it running, just not very much on coral , im looking for some easy non agressive coral ,and fish what do you suggest??!!

should post in the S.W section.....

and on another note... i wish i could help you

What kind of lighting do you have? That has a lot to do in determining what corals you can keep. Also, with 30lbs of live rock in your tank, you probably have 6 or so gallons of actual water in your tank. Not the best for beginner reef tank, but doable if you're willing to put in the time watching your water quality. For first time corals, star polyps, mushrooms, and xenia are all decent choices. As are open brains such as trachyphylia's are pretty hardy and dont' require as much care as sps corals. Leathers are also good starters. Some people would say xenia is a high light coral, but I kept mine originally in a 29 gallon with 110 watts of light and it grew all over the tank. Damn annoying if you ask me. Also, zooanthids are damn near impossible to kill.

First off your question depends on what kind of lighting as already mentioned. Being new to salt as you stated, I would first read up on corals you like ..... Julian Sprung, Ron Shemik and Michael Scott are a few great authors to read up on. Once you determine what you like and the care requirments for that coral the question can best be answered. For a quick answer off the hip without doing research you are safe with mushrooms, xenia and a few more soft corals. Most all soft corals are non-aggressive, but some do grow quickly and will need to be propagated from time to time. Mushrooms come in a variety of colors and are a great first coral, they dont need special lights, and feed from the water column (some mushrooms such as frilly's need meaty foods) Hope this helps you and welcome to the saltwater world, you will love it!

your name should be scuba steve. I don't know why, but it seemed funny. That's some really good advice too. Really good authors too.
