Hello, I've been away from the aquarium hobby for a few years but have gotten that itch back, I need aquariums in my life lol. I'm already going on a 75 gallon planted and am planning the fish stock. I want to do an Australia type tank ( or as close as I can get, being in the US and all). I am going to get a group of 8-10 Maccullochi dwarf rainbows and I want the second main fish to be Empire Gudgeons. Really the only thing I'm undecided on is how many gudgeons will work in a 75 gallon. Does anyone have any opinions on this? Also, if anyone has any suggestions for another Australian fish species that would work in this se

Really? No one has experience with Empire Gudgeons? I know their rare but I didn't think I was that special lol. I bought six of them for my 75 since I got no response from three different forums. Anyone....opinions? Too many, not enough? I know they are found in relatively large groups in the wild but don't know much beyond that.

Empire gudgeon are a brackish species, u can keep maybe a half dozen in a 75 with suitable brackish fish like mollies, dragon fish, and if u have a shallow and land area or a moist turtle rock at barely above water level u can add four eyes or small mudskippers

They are only brackish as larvae. I have kept them for years and dont need salt. Just don't expect to get any fry. They live hundreds of miles up Australian rivers and their are isolated populations in lakes and aquaculture fish ponds so they don't need salt. I was just wondering about stocking density, I know how to take care of them. If you don't actually have experience with this species please don't just respond with what you "think" is acurrate, I'm looking for personal experiences. Thank you

Haha, yeah, monster fish keepers hasn't changed at all in the time I've been away from the hobby, it's still a somewhat combative forum

Well MFK was no help at all but I found my answer looking in Aussie native forums. You can put quite a few empire Gudgeons in a 75 gallon
